What is a Master Server?

Master server Counter-Strike 1.6 is a special server that the CS 1.6 game client on your computer contacts when you open the server search tab in the game. This master server sends your computer a list of CS 1.6 servers from its database (a list of IP addresses and ports) so that you can choose a server from the list to join and play.

Most often, when installing the Counter-Strike 1.6 game on your computer, the address of the master server to which you need to connect to get a list of game servers is already specified in your client settings (in a file called MasterServers.vdf). If desired, you can specify any other master server in the MasterServers.vdf settings file.
